"A Christmas Concert"

"Julie Andrews Sings Her Favourite Christmas Songs"

The Concert took place at the Royal Festival Hall in 1987, and was broadcast on BBC radio. It was conducted by Andre' Previn. We had arranged a booking of the first and second row. Myself and Maria sat just behind Julie's father.

Maria and Anders in the foyer of Festival Hall. Julie added one song to the programme - "The Lamb of God" which is a favourite of mine. There was just one glitch and that came on the final song "Jingle Bells". Julie had problems with the final high note but fortunately it only lasted for a fraction of a second and the whole hall gave her a rapturous reception.

After the concert we all waited for Julie to leave the building - this proved to be quite difficult as the Festival Hall has several exits. Luckily, we were at the right place at the right time so we got the chance to sing "Thank you for the Music" (ABBA) to her. I'm still not sure if her recoil was because we sang at her or because of my flat singing voice....
